Mo has fun in the desert - Tucson, Arizona

Now Mo, DO NOT GET TOO CLOSE TO THE CACTUS! Yes, I am a typical parent. I was a little paranoid he would get too close and stick himself! He is very inquisitive and investigative, a typical kid. But he listened well and didn't get too close. It was SUCH A BEAUTIFUL AFTERNOON! I really enjoyed our visit to Tucson and this park in particular. Lots of beautiful cactus and the landscape is just gorgeous!

Mo was mesmerized by the sheer size of this cactus!

It was really funny, Mo picked up this branch and pretended to vacuum. He's at that age he wants to help out so much around the house and vacuuming is one of those fun things he loves to do.

I absolutely fell in love with being there and the scenery, but I am happy to be back. I love the grass and trees and open fields. Kansas is definitely where I want to be!

Recently on our trip to Arizona, Holly and I had a great time meeting a fellow photographer that we met online. Melissa of Melissa Donaldson Photography and her husband Robert met us one afternoon and we had a great opportunity to hang out and talk shop. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the opportunity to just hang out with another husband and wife photography team. They couldn't be nicer and I hope we get to hang out with them again one day!

We had an awesome time in Arizona. I had the radio on and the deejay said that the weather there makes people all over the country jealous. It was literally 72 degrees. So amazing. A really great place that I look forward to visiting again and again!

After living here for 30 years I am still not used to the heat, but love the Arizona sunsets, and adore the desert and mountains. Recently we had a fun time shooting baby Elias. An adorable baby boy who made us remember how much we enjoy photographing babies!

Babies at this age are so oblivious to the world around them. It is really interesting to really study that part of them. I love capturing them making small faces and expressions as they dream or feel things. It's really neat!

To get the most ideal baby portraits, it's best to do so when they are as young as possible. If they are only days old, let's get them in! It's an experience that you will never forget and portraits you will cherish forever!

Mo goes downtown! Topeka, KS Children's Portrait Photographer

Late last year we decided to take Mo out for a photo shoot. He had a new outfit and wanted to get some great shots of him. We were really excited with the images we were able to capture! I think his little outfit gave him an older time feel. We had lots of fun and believe it or not, Mo being only four, had lots of great ideas for his poses.

I know I'm biased because he's our son, but this is a good looking little guy! He's a great little model too! Always fun to shoot portraits of him.

Lindsay and Brandon Engagement Session - Topeka, KS wedding and family portrait photographers

Yesterday, despite it being the beginning of January, was a gorgeous day for outdoor portraits! We had a great time capturing beautiful images of Lindsay and Brandon. It was a lot of fun and these guys gotta be some of the most laid back, down to earth couples we ever met! We're gonna have a great time photographing their wedding!

Kansas Children's Discovery Center in Topeka Kansas - A day of fun!!!!

So, we have this new kid's place in Topeka. It's great and I am very excited about it. It's a place for young children to have fun, explore, learn and be mentally stimulated. Not a knock against your typical kids places, but this is a place that your young child can have lots of fun and not want to leave even after 3 hours of non stop exploring. As in the words of our four year old son, "I LOVE this place! It's better than Chuck E Cheese!!" We took Mo and I am so glad we did. He absolutely loved it. Holly and I both enjoyed ourselves tremendously. And I really love how much they have for kids to do there. From learning about lots about how things work to building things. There is more stuff than I even put on this blog post. If you live near Topeka and have a kid between 2 and half years and like 7 or 8, I highly suggest checking this place out!

Mo had fun painting his name!

Mo had a blast working with tools and making stuff!

He made a really cool robot. With a little help from me and Holly, he hammered nails to put this thing together!

This air machine that levitated these balls mesmerized Mo for a long time!

He had fun working on the toy car. He changed a tire, changed the license plate and even learned about what's under the hood.

Here Mo was trying to change out the muffler! So cute!!

This contraption of belts, robes, pulleys and cranks transporting rocks really piqued Mo's interest! I think he literally played in this area for an hour!

He worked with some of the other kids to transport the pebbles around the machine.

We headed over to the black light room and put shapes on the wall. I had a little fun myself writing my name on the wall!

There are probably close to 30 different stations in this awesome place for kids to learn, play and explore. From a pretend kitchen to a doctor's office, from a vet's office to face painting, this place has so much, if it doesn't wear the parent out, you could literally hang out there all day. Trust me, Mo would have loved that. At one point he told us he wished this was his house!

If you get the chance, do take an opportunity to check this gem out! You'll be very satisfied how much fun your kids have. You never know, you might have a great time as well!

Thanksgiving 2011 at the Lanier's - Special fun day with family!

This post is a little behind but I was really wanting to get this online to share with all our friends and family, especially those we don't live near anymore. Thanksgiving we headed down to Wichita to spend it with our parents and my sister Vanessa, brother in law John and their beautiful kids Evan and Idania. The food was wonderful. The conversation was great and we had lots of fun just hanging out.

Recently I took Mo out to get some shots of him by some trees before the wind, snow, rain and overall cold weather took them all away. We had lots of fun and it really wasn't all that cold as long as we had a jacket on for part of the time. The truth is even though lots of people want portraits outdoors when the leaves are either in full bloom or when the leaves are starting to turn color, the reality is anytime is a good time for portraits outdoors as long as the weather isn't too cold. We can really make any place look good. That's the photographer's job. Yes, we are doing lots of studio shots right now, but we're also still shooting outdoors if the client is up to it and it's not too chilly. So.... let's take it outside!

Recently we had an opportunity to photograph a return client of ours for a very special set of images. Khristina wanted her daughters in her wedding dress. What a unique and beautiful idea. We've been meaning to post this post since summer time. Our neighbors have a beautiful dog named Hercules. He is HUGE!!! This was Hercules when he was only a puppy and he was bigger than our jack russells. Pretty insane. He's as big as a smart car now.

I love every kind of puppy. Even as big as he was he was still definitely a puppy. So adorable!

Abigail Macias - 2012 Highland Park Senior - Topeka, KS

We used to think that if it was rainy and cold that there's no way we could do photos outdoors and if we did, they wouldn't turn out. That's all in the past because here is Abigail's senior portrait session and we're THRILLED with how her session turned out!

Abigail is a senior at Highland Park and she is one of the nicest, most sweetest seniors we've ever photographed! She was all bubbly and cheery despite the dark clouds in the sky! We had lots of fun, LOTS OF LAUGHS and overall we are just so happy we got to meet Abigail and photograph her. It was a blast! Here's some of our favorites!

Her little sister Cinthia tagged along and was a very good helper! She helped with blocking the wind and rain in some photos to be exact!

Abigail looks amazing smiling and serious, not something every senior can pull off!

Hannah + Jared = Love. 11/19/11, Lawrence, Kansas Fall Wedding

November 19th was certainly a cold windy day. But inside the Oread Hotel it was warm as Hannah Boos prepared to become Mrs. Jared Brown. The day was set to be host to a beautiful and elegant candlelit wedding ceremony.

The day was spent preparing with her mother, sister and friends.

She even had a surprise from a very special friend!

We took things downtown for some special portraits of Hannah and Jared and then came the fun!! An awesome, beautifully decorated reception that was a gorgeous backdrop to lots of laughs and special memories.

Cheers to an awesome and very deserving couple!!!

Everyone was in such a great mood! It made photographing the party super fun!!!

For a long time I've wanted to put advertising on our vehicle. I finally got it taken care of. It's kind of like a tattoo because I want to put more on and then do our other vehicles. Last week was so much fun! We got to hang out with Ashley and Robby from our wedding contest! We had so much fun photographing them and their two beautiful dogs. The doggies were so nice and friendly, exactly like their owners! These guys seriously had TONS of amazing images, but as always I have to narrow it down to a handful of our favorites!

From the very beginning, these guys were completely relaxed and at ease with each other in front of the camera. So fun and it made photographing them fun and interesting! I LOVE my job when I get couples like this!!!

We got one of the last beautiful days of fall. I think at this point, it's getting pretty chilly and cool. Though we're always up for shoots outdoors if our couples are. It was really windy but the sun felt great and I felt like we were just hanging out and having fun all afternoon!

Earlier this year we had a cutest kid winner and Tage did well in our contest! We were very excited about getting the chance to photograph another child from the contest along with his family! Tage, the younger of the two boys was in our contest. He was a little shy when we first started, but with enough goofy talking and Tage was ready to play!

John and Jessica came to us last week and we were very happy to find out they had dogs and cats! We love pets! Their a lot like little kids! They have unique personalities. They can be a bit hyper. They can be defiant and in the case of these little guys, they can also be very sweet! We had lots of fun with this beautiful family and are very happy with how these turned out!

These guys are a very sweet couple and made photographing them not only fun but easy!

We absolutely loved doing singles of all their animals. Mo had lots of fun with them. They even seemed excited to be here.

Who could resist this face! Holly and I were having fun making captions for it and imitating him! LOL!

Mo LOVES Angry Birds!!!

Our son Mo accompanies us on many of our jobs. Usually he loves holding a reflector and he's great at helping get little ones to smile. Here we were taking a break and waiting for our senior to change outfits. He took a break to knock some buildings down. He LOVES Angry Birds!

Brrrrr! It was cold when we got together with Harlie, but she was a total trooper! It was not only chilly but windy and rainy. Though you'd never be able to tell from her expression! She was very good in front of the camera!

We did find a great location to get some indoor shots since it would have been downright miserable being outdoors the whole time, but we really enjoyed the change of pace!

Last night we attended Carbondale's Main street Trunk or Treat. What a treat it was for us! Of course, we gave lots of candy out, but so many kids came through. We didn't even stay the whole time but we personally probably photographed over 500 children. That's a lot of kids!!! Way to go and what a fun event! We'll definitely be back next year! Of course, I couldn't fit ever shot we took last night on our blog, but here are just some of the shots that we loved. One of the things that I love most about photographing children is they are unrestrained in their expressions. They might be shy, serious, happy, funny, etc. But they rarely put on a show or try to look like someone they're not. They are very true to themselves. I think it's one of the greatest joys of photographing kids.

We are sooo excited to share these portraits with everyone! This is one of our latest seniors, Alyssa Crider, from Lawrence High. Beautiful young lady and beautiful setting for her session! We are thrilled with the results.

The leaves are in full color change mode and we are just soaking it up! They are changing so fast, we have to take full advantage of it before it's gone for good!

The weather was soooo gorgeous and Alyssa did amazing! Her outfits were awesome and her expressions and ability to work in front of the camera were outstanding. She almost seemed like a model in how good she took direction and smiled for us. We had a lot of fun and lots of laughs. The session flew by. I wanted it to last longer, LOL!

Her parents tagged along and were great help! Dad was an awesome reflector holder and helped make the session even more amazing!

I absolutely LOOVVVVEEEE this location! We'll have to come back and explore it some more!

When Amanda called us about doing her senior portraits, we were TOTALLY STOKED!! I knew she would do amazing and was so excited to know that she would even consider using us!

We woke up when it was still dark Monday morning and it was misty and dark and cold. We all thought, oh no! But it turned out to make for some very soft and beautiful and interesting light. Normally, the way we shoot, we want lots of light but even though this was quite different than the way we normally do things, I loved the end results! With all that said, Amanda was very cooperative and in a wonderful mood and we made the best of the situation.

We really, really love photographing seniors in a way that we feel is different than most other kind of sessions. They have waited years to become seniors and graduate and this is sort of a rite of passage and a honor and right and feel that we need to make the occasion as special as possible.

We really love the fun and colorful outfits Amanda chose and think they were perfect for the day. We really needed the color considering the weather and it was just perfect in our opinion!

Her younger brother and mom came along for support and were really helpful! We appreciate them being there!

We found this location and TOTALLY LOVED IT!!! She's perfect there! One of my absolute favorites!

Labor day was awesome and fun and I think will be remembered in our books for so many fun and memorable sessions. Here is Rozie, a sweetie pie, who is about to give birth to a baby boy named Waylon. She just weeks away and we're glad we got to be a part of something so special.

I love the name Waylon! I told her that I love boys who have really manly names. Good choice!

Rozie did great and thought we were probably a little coo coo running out into the road, but I wanted a cool and modern feel for these. She such a cool mama!

It is a bittersweet time for Rozie, but I feel that it will be a special memory for her and one day Waylon will grow up and cherish these images!
